Slovakia's labour market looks steadier on paper than it feels on the ground. Unemployment has been falling in recent months and sits at roughly 4% of the economically active population — but underneath that headline figure, layoffs at some companies, labour shortages at others, and growing jobseeker uncertainty are all building at once.

Labour Minister Erik Tomáš pointed to the recent decline in unemployment through February and March 2026, with preliminary figures suggesting April continued the trend. But central bank analyst Michal Doliak cautioned the number of unemployed is likely to rise again in coming months, since a stronger economic recovery isn't expected soon — citing population ageing, technological change, and fiscal consolidation as ongoing pressures on the labour market.
Slovakia isn't a current Globaris pathway, but the scale here is notable — foreign workers already make up roughly 5% of the active labour force, alongside wage levels (average gross wage €1,620/month) meaningfully higher than several existing Globaris pathway countries. Worth continued tracking as a potential future route.
